3rd Annual Think Pink Day

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October), Roxy and the Quiksilver Foundation held a fun filled event to support the Keep a Breast Foundation at Quiksilver headquarters. Pink champagne, beer, cotton candy and a raffle was enjoyed while attendees were treated to a wonderful bust art display and a special live performance by Ashley Lloyd.

Another highlight from the event was Keep a Breast’s Shaney Jo Darden who discussed their mission to help eradicate breast cancer by spreading the word about early awareness and educating women on how to perform self examinations.

Roxy pro surfers Jen Smith, Julie Cox and Lisa Anderson were also on hand to kick off the Keep a Breast/Roxy/Emergen-C Pink bus tour in support of breast cancer awareness…be on the look out for them this October as they travel to different California college campuses!

The Hard Facts

  • According to the The National Breast Cancer Foundation, each year over 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and for over 40,000, it is fatal.
  • One woman in eight either has or will develop breast cancer in her lifetime.
  • Approximately 1,700 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 450 will die each year.
  • If detected early, the five-year survival rate for breast cancer exceeds 96%.
  • Mammograms are among the best early detection methods, yet 13 million U.S. women 40 years of age or older have never had a mammogram.
  • The National Cancer Institute and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommend that women in their forties and older have mammograms every one to two years.
